Clean environments free of pollutants and other airborne particulate are crucial to a number of industries, which is why a cleanroom is used. By measuring atmospheric contaminants, Research cleanrooms are able to provide a set environment in which airborne particles are kept to a certain PPC (particles per cubic meter) reliably and within the ISO grade of that cleanroom. ISO 9 cleanrooms, as example, are the lowest level of cleanroom available, and maintains a PPC of 35,000,000 of particles 0.5mm in diameter or larger, which is comparable to your average urban environment. A wide variety of industries, such as electronic technology and bioengineering, rely on the clean, stable environment provided by modular cleanrooms for testing and manufacturing. Complex industries such as Research depend on cleanrooms to reduce particle contamination and provide a clean, stable environment. HEPA filters are installed within all modular cleanrooms to ensure the air being circulated into the space is pollutant and contaminant free. For industries requiring more filtration, ULPA filters are installed.

For industries like Research, personnel must undergo training in contamination control theory if they are to working in the portable cleanroom environment. In order to keep a Research cleanroom ‘clean,’ airlocks are used on all doors in and out of the cleanroom, and special clothing and gowning / de-gowning procedures are in place to ensure contamination is minimal. ISO grade will determine what Research personnel need to wear in order to minimise contamination when working within the cleanroom, and can include anything from standard lab coats to fully enclosed jumpsuits. Each cleanroom will have a different ISO grade, and therefore require any of the following: shoes or boots, face masks, bouffant caps, gowns, frocks, aprons, gloves, hoods, and shoe covers. Depending on the type of job carried out within the cleanroom and the ISO grade, Research personnel will need to dress accordingly.
