Controlled levels of pollutants and pathogens (such as chemical vapours, aerosol particles, and microorganisms) cleanrooms are utilised by many industries as ultra-clean, self-contained environments. PPC (particles per cubic meter) is a measurement of the level of pollutant contamination within the environment and cleanrooms are designed to maintain an acceptable level of contamination As example, at 35,000,000 PPC (of particles 0.5mm or larger) ISO grade 9 is the lowest level of cleanroom available, and has an atmosphere comparable to an urban environment. The stable environments provided by cleanrooms are depended upon by a wide variety of industries which could be affected by particle contamination, including pharmaceuticals and the manufacturing of electronic components. For Pharmaceuticals, it is crucial for modular cleanrooms to meet the needs of such a growing and complex industry by reducing particulate contamination. In order to ensure the air within a cleanroom is contaminate free, HEPA filters are installed and are capable of filtering particles as small as 0.3 microns. In industries requiring the cleanest of conditions, ULPA filters can be fitted for even smaller particulate filtration.
Pharmaceutical PERSONNEL AND CLEANROOMS
For industries like Pharmaceuticals, personnel must undergo training in contamination control theory if they are to working in the portable cleanroom environment. Pharmaceuticals cleanrooms maintain their ‘clean’ integrity through the employment of proper clothing, gowning and showering procedures, and the use of airlocks at entrances and exits to keep the pollutants to a minimum. Depending on the task at hand and the ISO grade of the cleanroom, Pharmaceuticals personnel may be required to dress in anything from standard lab coats and hair nets to fully enclosed suits with its own breathing apparatus. Each cleanroom will have a different ISO grade, and therefore require any of the following: shoes or boots, face masks, bouffant caps, gowns, frocks, aprons, gloves, hoods, and shoe covers. The ISO grade of the modular cleanroom, as well as the task being carried out within, will be what determines what Pharmaceuticals personnel need to wear.
