Modular cleanrooms are controlled, clean environments that are utilised by a myriad of different industries in which pathogens and other airborne particulate must be kept to a minimum. Medical cleanrooms are classed by ISO grades, which are set given levels of pollutant and particle contamination and measured as particles per cubic meter (PPC). ISO 9 cleanrooms, as example, are the lowest level of cleanroom available, and maintains a PPC of 35,000,000 of particles 0.5mm in diameter or larger, which is comparable to your average urban environment. A wide variety of industries, such as electronic technology and bioengineering, rely on the clean, stable environment provided by modular cleanrooms for testing and manufacturing. For Medical, portable cleanrooms help maintain industry standards by reducing pollutant contamination, which can have a real impact in such a complex industry. HEPA filters, which are capable of filtering out particulate as small as 0.3 microns, are employed to ensure the air pumped into a Medical cleanroom is contaminate-free. For industries requiring more filtration, ULPA filters are installed.

Contamination control theory courses are a requirement for all Medical personnel before working within a modular cleanroom. In order to keep pollutants to a minimum within a Medical cleanroom, specialised clothing, airlocks, and proper showering and gowning techniques are used. Anything from standard lab coats to fully enclosed jumpsuits may be required for Medical personnel to work within the cleanroom environment, depending on the ISO grade of the room itself. Each cleanroom will have a different ISO grade, and therefore require any of the following: shoes or boots, face masks, bouffant caps, gowns, frocks, aprons, gloves, hoods, and shoe covers. Depending on the type of job carried out within the cleanroom and the ISO grade, Medical personnel will need to dress accordingly.
